NEH Grant Awarded
August 24, 2024
Multi-year support for a collaborative multi-authored book, Urban Repair: The Southwest Corridor and the Transformation of Boston, 1970-89 was awarded in September 2024. This book will be the first scholarly assessment of the Southwest Corridor Project in Boston, Massachusetts. Through critical essays, interviews, and heretofore unpublished archival material, Urban Repair will demonstrate how the Southwest Corridor Project engaged local communities, designers, and government officials in the revitalization of areas of the city damaged by urban renewal and how it continues to serve as a model of community-responsive urban design.
This support comes in part from NEH’s “American Tapestry: Weaving Together Past, Present, and Future,” a special initiative that leverages the humanities to strengthen our democracy, advance equity for all, and address our changing climate. Additionally, the grant includes a direct subaward for our partners at Roxbury Community College (RCC) to provide research opportunities for students and create co-curricular opportunities in our Associate’s to Master’s Accelerator Program.
